Discord: Channel Backfill Behavior in Beeper

TL;DR: When connecting Discord to Beeper, you may notice that channels appear without any message history. This is expected behavior.

    Channel Backfill Behavior in Beeper

When connecting Discord to Beeper for the first time, you’ll notice differences in how messages are synced between servers and direct messages (DMs). Here’s what to expect:

    • Server Channels:
      • Beeper does not backfill messages from Discord server channels. However, it does sync the full channel list, even if the channels are empty. This allows you to send messages directly from Beeper without needing to open Discord.
    • Direct Messages (DMs):
      • For DMs, Beeper does backfill a limited amount of history:
        • The 5 most recent DMs are synced when you connect the bridge
        • Up to 50 messages per DM are backfilled

    Summary:

    • ✅ Discord server channels are listed
    • ❌ Server messages are not backfilled
    • ✅ You can send messages in server channels
    • ✅ DMs are backfilled (5 recent DMs, 50 messages each)
    • ✅ You can send and receive DMs

This behavior is designed to provide essential functionality while maintaining performance and stability.
