TL;DR: No. Beeper does not connect to Gmail or other email inboxes.

Beeper provides a unified messaging experience for supported chat networks. You can use your preferred email address when creating a Beeper account and receive a six-digit code at that address to verify your login. Using a Gmail address for this purpose does not connect your Gmail inbox or allow you to read and send email in Beeper. This applies to any email address, Beeper is not intended to be used as an email client at the moment.

Google Chat, Google Messages, and Google Voice are separate messaging services. Support for those services does not include Gmail email.
